ALL ABOUT POSTURE TRAINING
WHAT IS POSTURE?
Posture is the position in which we hold our bodies, whether standing, sitting or lying down. Our posture and our muscles stop us falling over due to the force of gravity. Good posture is when the body parts are aligned and are supported correctly and easily by the muscles. Poor posture is caused by certain muscles tightening and shortening, which creates pressure on other parts of the body and subsequently pain and weakness.

When posture is poor, it impacts negatively and will cause back and joint pain. In the workplace, poor posture will lead to repetitive strain injury.

Let us enable your staff to stand taller, sit straighter and increase their morale and productivity.

WHAT IS POSTURE TRAINING?
Nordic Rehab physiotherapists are ergonomic specialists (registered with ACPOHE) and will take your staff through the principles and aims of good posture. Ultimately the principle of good posture is to hold the body in positions where the least stress is placed on joints and muscles.

We will teach techniques for holding the body and moving in a natural, easy way.

SYMPTOMS OF POOR POSTURE
Visible signs of poor posture:
-
Slouching - the head tilts forward, upper back is rounded and lower back is arched.
-
Too upright - head is held behind the centre of gravity, shoulder blades are pulled back, lower back is arched and knees are locked.

Signs of poor posture that develop over time:
-
One shoe wears down more quickly than the other.
-
Walking pattern is irregular and awkward. Walking on sand is particularly difficult.
-
Your neck angle does not look vertical in photographs.
-
Your head tilts to the side in photographs.
-
You always sit tilted to one side.
-
Your abdomen bulges out.
-
Headaches.
-
Back / joint aches and strains.
In time, the pressure of bad posture will lead to musculoskeletal pain, primarily in the ankles, knees, hips, neck, shoulders and back. You will also become more vulnerable to muscle strains.

Functional movement is everyday movement.
Movement is an integral part of everyone's day to day existence...getting out of bed, getting yourself ready, going to work, being at work, shopping for groceries, personal care, housework, hobbies, playing sport, looking after the children and getting back into bed at the end of a long day (!)

WHAT IS FUNCTIONAL FITNESS?
Functional fitness is about these everyday muscle movements become stronger and performing properly. It’s about muscle groups working together efficiently and without strain. For you, this means less risk for injury but also an increase in fitness and musculoskeletal wellness by literally living your everyday life.
