Nordic Rehab Ltd’s Parkinson's physiotherapy service at home is for those suffering from Parkinson's (perhaps yourself or a loved one).  A cruel and frustrating disease, our physiotherapists have extensive experience in Parkinson's physiotherapy and our treatments will be of great benefit. Our therapists cover Solihull and local areas.

ABOUT PARKINSON’S DISEASE

Parkinson's is a neurological condition bringing motor and non-motor problems. It is progressive and sadly there is no cure. The three main motor (movement) symptoms are slowness, stiffness and tremor.

  • 127,000 people are diagnosed with Parkinson’s, making it the second most common neurological disorder in the UK. With the population ageing, these numbers will double by 2030

  • Diagnosis is mainly in the over 55’s, but increasingly seen in younger people

PHYSIOTHERAPY FOR PARKINSON’S DISEASE

The symptoms and functional issues arising from Parkinson's can differ from person to person. It also depends on the length of time you or a loved one may have had the condition for. Nordic Rehab can help whether diagnosis is recent, or if you have lived with Parkinson’s for a long time.

Physiotherapy treatment will address the quality of your function and ease of your movement patterns. We can help you with most aspects of the condition, including mobility, walking, getting in and out of a chair or car, turning in bed, reaching, fine motor (hand skills) and many other aspects of everyday life.

Nordic Rehab specialist Parkinson’s physios will also help with transfers, body balance and falls prevention and education.

Our Parkinson's physiotherapy service will improve your fitness and keep your muscles and movement flexible, relieve stiffness and ultimately help you adapt to life with Parkinson's.

TREATMENT AND REHABILITATION FOR PARKINSON’S DISEASE

Physiotherapy intervention will always depend on you as an individual. We at Nordic Rehab take great pride in the width and variety of treatment and rehabilitation methods we can apply, depending on who you are as a person, your goals and needs.

As a general guideline, in an early diagnosis we normally promote general fitness and activity, especially in a community environment. We will do physio led exercises to reduce a decline in physical function and balance. Sometimes people are feeling anxious about their condition, and we will help you with strategies in reducing such negative feelings and promote well-being and mindfulness.

In the later stages of the disease, Nordic Rehab will help you to develop procedures for coping with physical difficulties in movement as well as attention span. We can help with mobility aids, where required.

Where needed we can provide help and education to our client's family and friends. Feeling confident about manual handling techniques, knowing useful treatment methods and understanding rehabilitation programs can make a big difference to our clients and the people who love them.
